The Maine Hideaway
Byron (Buzz) was born on December 4, 1930 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. His parents were Francis Orval Troy and Goldie Melange Hynes. He was the youngest of 4 children; 2 brothers, Francis (Bubbles) & Alison (Al) & 1 sister, Charlotte.
He remained in Woodstock until his graduation from Woodstock High School, where he was very active in almost all sports, especially basketball, during a period when his basketball team claimed 2 Canadian championships in their school division and for which the town of Woodstock placed his name/team picture, along with his fellow team mates, on the Woodstock Wall of Fame.
While in High School he was apparently known to be a bit mischevious at times. One story has it that he was very protective of his older brother, Al, who was sometimes imbarrassed by a particular male teacher. Buzz took a mop from a janitor's closet, waited around the corner in a hallway and when the teacher in question came walking down the corridor, Buzz stepped out from around the corner and just decked him with the mop. Apparently the teacher ended up on the floor. The question arises, how was he reprimanded for this action ...... can anyone fill in this missing detail?
Following high school he enrolled in the Ricker College, Houlton, Maine, Teacher's College Program, to graduation. It was while in Houlton that he met and romanced Barbara Jean Daigle, his wife to be.
