Francis Orval Troy was born on in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada
Orval voluntarily enlisted on the 16th day of May 1917, at the apparent age of 18 years and 6 months, into the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force, 2nd New Brunswick Forestry Coy., during WWI. From Halifax, NB, onboard S/S Megantic he arrived alongside Liverpool, England on the 15th day of September, 1917, was assigned to " 18-9-17 O.C.CFC.S.O.S Base Depot CFC Sunningdale, England. 15-9-17.PT.II.D.O.123", to " 15-11-17.O.C.51 Dist T.O.S.51 Dist CFC 129 Coy. from Base Depot Nairn 8-11-17 PT II.D.O. 138", to He worked around the Sunningdale, Egham and Inverness, England area, with Dist. 51 Coy. 129 and Dist. 53 Coy. 126, throughout his over-seas deployment, with the rank of PT II.
Following his military service he returned to Woodstock, New Brunswick. At some point he became the Head Immigration Officer on the Canadian side of the Woodstock-Houlton border crossing. He remained in this position for several years, until his retirement.
Francis Orval Troy, though not a tall man, was a very stout man with large hands. For many years he was a recovering alcholic who attended 'AA' meetings regularly and after the death of his wife Goldie, devoted the remainder of his life to travelling around North America in his regularly updated Ford Thunderbird, attending and guest speaking at 'AA' meetings. He was a diabetic, likely due to his excessive drinking.
